Jim Anderson Speaks About Wichita Losing Aviation Capital Status

Jim Anderson (R) Speaks Out About Keeping Wichita The Aviation Capital, Expressing Concern About The Impact On Families And Our Economy And The Need To Work Through A Solution.

The recent discussions regarding Wichita losing its position as the Aviation Capital hits particularly close to home for me. Wichita became my home when my 20+ year career as a pilot, Fleet Manager and line captain brought me to this wonderful community. So many employees and their families will be affected by this action that all sides must come to the table and create a long-term value proposition where all sides can benefit.

There is no excuse for Kansas to lose businesses to other states, especially one that is so important to our economy. Our fiscal and tax situation is heavily damaging our business competitiveness. Private sector job growth has been dormant for a decade, despite all the benefits that Kansas has to offer: abundant energy, central location, educated and skilled labor force, and entrepreneurial strength. At the same time, public sector jobs continue to grow, forcing the private sector and taxpayers to subsidize it. The state must become more business friendly, get our spending problem under control, reduce red tape, and adopt the Fair Tax.

When it comes to aviation companies, I understand that the companies have shareholders, who as investors expect the companies to behave in a financially responsible manner. That said, my concern does not lie with the CEOs, as they will be fine. My concern lies with the employees, their families, and all the other businesses that will be impacted both directly and indirectly. Before a decision is made to relocate, it is my hope that the executives and employee leadership put forth all efforts to remain in this community.

Both the state/local government and the companies themselves have a vested interest in resolving this issue quickly in order to ensure that we remain the Aviation Capital for decades to come.

Jim Anderson
U.S. Congressional Candidate
Kansas – 4th District

  1. Well said. Having been born and raised here, it saddens me terribly that this is being considered. With Pompeo being in the back pocket of the aviation CEOs I do not expect much from him. Thanks Jim for giving an honest, fair, and necessary push to get this resolved.

As an employee of one of the companies considering moving, I can tell you that every one of my Republican co-workers was also impressed by your letter too.

  2. David C says:

Glad to see that someone is addressing this issue. Thanks Jim.

  3. Wingman says:

Although I am a registered Independent and cannot vote for you (would have if I had learned of you in time to switch BACK to the Republican party), I was alerted to this letter and appreciate your action to help with the situation.

Best of luck in the primary.

  4. Thanks for demonstrating your heart and your mind. When the execs move on to cheaper labor pool, it is 4th district families that will be left to pick up the pieces. I wonder if Mr. Pompeo will give his aviation money back?

  5. ScottKS says:

    Shane-

I was thinking the same thing about Pompeo. He has been awfully quiet about this issue.

  6. Bert J says:

    Jim-

My family and I are very nervous about this happening and thank you for being the only candidate to come forward.

  7. Keep doing stuff like this i really like it
