Parents and States Should Be Left To Education Our Children!

It always amazes me when people talk about the benefits of free markets for goods and services and then say that we should not have it in education. I believe that parents and local school boards know how to best education our children.

Parents should be left to choose where their children goes to school, be it in a public school, private school, home school, etc. I am a strong supporter of vouchers, as the dollars should follow the child, not the child following the dollars. For those teachers who may scoff at vouchers, I argue that they should want to have the market determine their wage, rather than have it suppressed by a bureaucrat in Washington. The market will bid up their wages just like it is done in the private sector.

The Federal Government needs to be responsible for standardized testing in order to ensure that the results from a child in Kansas can be compared to that of one in another state, and that the minimum standards allowed in each state are competitive with that of any other country in the world. Beyond that, the Department of Education should cease, as it is unconstitutional, not to mention failing our children.

We must recognize the importance of our children’s education. Our intellectual endowment is enormously important in the future success of our economy. Spending more money has not improved the situation, quite the opposite in fact. We must get the Federal Government out of the way and put the power back in the hands of those who know how to provide the best education for their children, the parents.

As your representative, I will fight for school vouchers in order to give parents the choice, while allowing the market determine which schools and teachers survive.
